To legally transport marijuana from place to place within the state of Colorado, you must abide by the "open marijuana container" law which is defined as "a receptacle or marijuana accessory that contains any amount of marijuana and:

  1. That is open or has a broken seal;
  2. The contents of which are partially removed; and
  3. There is evidence that marijuana has been consumed within the motor vehicle."

Penalties do not apply if the marijuana is located in the trunk or behind the rear seat when the vehicle is not equipped with a trunk.

What does this mean for you? Never drive under the influence, never consume in a vehicle, and always place your marijuana in the trunk when transporting it.

Come January 1st, 2020 MED, and city licensed social consumption establishments will begin to open legally.
