It's time for another installment in our series "Meet the Terpenes." In previous blogs, we've focused onwhat terpenes areand then we got specific about the benefits ofpinene. Today we're discussing another terpene that's prevalent in cannabis (as well as 200 other plants):linalool.

Terpenes are aromatic oils secreted by the glands of plants. There are over 100 terpenes that are found in cannabis, and each has a specific effect (and when combined with one another and with cannabinoids, produce an entourage effect. More on that in a future blog.). Linalool is found in lavender and gives that herb its characteristic scent.

But terpenes do more than contribute their aromas to plants. Studies have indicated that each terpene has its own unique benefits. Some of linalool's are:

  • It's anti-microbial. Astudypublished last year in the journalChemoecologyfound that linalool inhibits the growth of bacteria in floral tissue, suggesting potential as a natural antibiotic.
  • Linalool has been demonstrated to reduce stress levels and to aid in sleep. Lavender has long been used as a calming agent, and a2017 studyfound that inhalation of essential oils with high levels of the terpene had positive effects on symptoms of sleep disturbance.
  • It has anticonvulsant properties. Astudyin the journalMoleculesfound linalool to be “very powerful in its anticonvulsant quality,” giving it promise as a treatment for epilepsy.
  • It has pain-relieving abilities. A study in the journalObesity Surgeryfound that patients recovering from surgery who were treated with lavender aromatherapy required significantly fewer opioids to relieve their pain than patients who did not receive aromatherapy.

Now that you know all about linalool, you probably want to experience its effects for yourself, right? The Green Solution can help! All our cannabis is lab-tested to determine its terpene profile, and each strain has its own infographic (bothonlineand instores) that outlines its stats. You can check for a strain high in linalool (or any other terpene) by reading the information in the frame, or just ask a friendly Retail Associate for help.

Quick Fact

Curing Cannabis Plants- This very gradual drying process involves moderate humidity and mild temperatures, preserving the dimensionality of cannabis plants and the consumption experience. The better and more gradual the curing process, the more sophisticated a grower's yields become, including preserved aromas, flavors, and potency.
